In November 2011, the CRISIS project took off with AITIA International on board. The project aims to develop an agent-based simulation model that encapsulates both macro-economics and financial aspects of the economy. The model is designed to explain the 2008 economic crisis, based on real data available for the project participants. For more details, please check out the project website: http://www.crisis-economics.eu/ The project was submitted to the FP7-ICT-2011-7 call, and it got funded under the agreement number 288501. |

The Functional Agent-Based Language for Simulations (Fables) developed by AITIA International, Inc., has been declared as an open source project under BSD (new) license. The project is now available at the following site: http://mass.aitia.ai/fables Platform roadmap and planned features will also be published up to 2011. Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions. Contributors are more than welcome! Anyone can influence the roadmap or contribute to the new features. You can find detailed information at the project site. We have begun the process of opening up and releasing the full source code of the Integrated Modeling Environment. Most of the materials (including the compiler sources) is accessible at the project repository by now. |

Fourteenth Portuguese Conference on Artificial Intelligence
Attila Szabó and Richárd Legéndi held successful presentations at the EPIA'2009 conference at the Social Simulation and Modelling and Multi-Agent Systems: Theory and Applications with the title of "Sensitivity Analysis of a Tax Evasion Model Applying Automated Design of Experiments" and "Modeling Autonomous Adaptive Agents with Fables", respectively.
The 14th Portuguese Conference on Artificial Intelligence, took place in Hotel Meliá Ria, Aveiro, in October 12-15, 2009. As in previous years, this international conference was hosted with the patronage of the Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence (APPIA). The purpose of this conference was to promote research in all areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI), covering both theoretical/foundational issues and applications, and the scientific exchange among researchers, engineers and practitioners in related disciplines. |

In the June issue of OR/MS Today, a survey is published on experts' opinion about the difference of classical OR models and agent-based models for logistics problems. The authors report conclusions drawn from 20 interviews. The respondents include practitioners of logistics service providers, established professors of renown universities, as well as young researchers, PhD fellows active in the field. Our colleague, Tamás Máhr was one of the interviewed researchers discussing advantages of agent systems. |
